For deeper pockets that do not respond to conventional scaling and root planing, pocket reduction surgery is the next phase in gum disease treatment.
During gum surgery, Dr. Tehrani will access the roots and bone below the gum line by lifting the gum tissue away from the tooth surface. This allows her to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from the roots of the teeth and then smooth the bone to correct any damage caused by the bacteria. The gum tissue is then trimmed and sutured to encourage reattachment.
