Improve Your Quality of Life With Dental Implants

Implants are designed to look, feel and function like your natural teeth.

What Can I Expect During the Examination?

We will take x-rays of the treatment site or review any x-rays submitted by your dentist. Dr. Tehrani will then evaluate whether the gums, bone, or sinus cavities require additional attention.

Computed Tomography (CT) scans may be utilized in your evaluation. They offer the most accurate diagnostic x-ray imaging currently used in implant dentistry. CT scans are used to diagnose, analyze and devise treatment plans for implant surgery. CT scans provide very detailed, three-dimensional images that can accurately measure the height and width of available bone, as well as locate the nearby anatomic structures (such as the maxillary sinuses and mandibular nerves) that the surgeon must be mindful of during the surgery.

Additional diagnostics may be necessary to check the health of your teeth and gums, as well as your bite. Dental impressions and digital photographs are often incorporated to monitor and record your treatment.

What can I expect during the procedure?

A successful dental implant procedure is the result of collaboration. You, your dentist, and your periodontist will help you discover the tooth implant placement option that is right for you. Treatment plans are unique, based upon your needs and goals, but you can expect the process to proceed in four stages:

Step 1: Consultation/Diagnosis

Your dentist and your periodontist will examine your teeth, bone, and gums, as well as your medical history to determine whether a tooth implant is recommended.

Step 2: Implanting the fixture (root replacement)

The dental implant, usually a cylindrical and /or tapered post made of titanium, is placed surgically into the jawbone. Adjunctive surgical procedures, such as bone augmentation, maybe performed as separate procedures or at the same time as implant placement. After placement, your implant will fuse with your natural jawbone, with the two growing together to form a strong and long-lasting foundation for your replacement tooth. During this time, a temporary tooth replacement option can be worn over the implant site.

Step 3: Abutment Attachment

After the integration process, the top of the implant must be uncovered so that abutments can be attached. Abutments connect the implants to the dental crowns and are crucial components of dental implants. Once completed, you will require a few weeks to heal.

Step 4: Permanent Restoration Placement

When your bone and gum tissue have healed, your dentist can restore your permanent tooth replacement. Depending upon the tooth replacement option you have selected, this may be a crown, bridge, or full denture. These steps may vary from patient to patient and in some cases, may be combined. Dr. Tehrani will make recommendations based upon your specific needs.
