Accelerated Healing Is in Your Blood

A dental procedure can take just minutes, yet the healing afterward can take weeks or even months. Often, it’s the recovery period that’s the least comfortable part of a treatment. There is a way to both condense that healing phase and reduce your chances of developing complications, however—and it’s completely natural. Platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, is sourced from your own blood, the ultimate biomaterial. Made possible through extensive research and sophisticated technology, this healing protocol helps you get back to enjoying a normal life more quickly after a dental procedure than is otherwise possible. Dr. Elly Tehrani, who is committed to using the most advanced materials and techniques available, can employ PRF during bone grafting, dental implant placement, gum grafting, and other periodontal procedures here in our Toronto, ON office. Not all practices offer this advantage.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Has Many Advantages

  • Accelerated healing after bone grafts and dental implants
  • Decreased chance of developing post-operative complications
  • Less swelling during and after surgery
  • Reduced post-surgery pain
  • Additive- and chemical-free approach

What Is PRF?

PRF is a type of growth factor, a protein that’s found naturally in your blood. Growth factors intensify your body’s healing process by stimulating the growth of healthy cells. With PRF, Dr. Tehrani and our team harness those natural healing properties to help you recuperate after surgery. We start by taking a small sample of your blood. We then put this sample into a centrifuge and rotate it at a rapid speed. This causes the different layers of blood to separate, which allows us to harvest the fibrin that accelerates healing. During your procedure we introduce PRF into the surgical site. This eventually forms a protective layer that promotes healing and enables you to feel better sooner. As an example, think of the way a scab forms over a cut to help it heal. Like that process, healing through PRF is completely natural, because the only “medicine” is your own blood!

Want to Heal Faster After Treatment?

Dr. Tehrani has the expertise and technology to make this happen with a variety of procedures. We invite you to see what she can do for you. Call us today or schedule your appointment online!
